Bus Pirate is an open-source hardware project associated with Dangerous Prototypes and developed as a universal serial interface tool. Its products are designed to help users communicate with chips, probe interfaces and investigate hardware before writing dedicated code. Bus Pirate 5 REV10 uses an RP2040 microcontroller and provides eight buffered, bidirectional I/O pins with support for 1-Wire, I2C, SPI, UART and other interfaces.

For authorised penetration testing, red-team engagements and security research, Bus Pirate can support hardware inspection, serial-bus troubleshooting, memory work and embedded-device analysis. Manufacturer documentation also describes logic-analyser functions, low-speed oscilloscope use, flash and EEPROM access, smart-card support, JTAG and SWD discovery, and bus sniffing.
